KERREDGE GALLERY, ARTIST MARKET & REPUBLIC YOUTH GALLERY AT THE

HERITAGE & HISTORY 
The 19 cooperating sites of the
KEWEENAW NATIONAL HISTORICAL PARK, established on October 27, 1992, commemorate the heritage of copper mining on the Keweenaw Peninsula - its mines, its machinery and its people:
 

Quincy Steam Hoist, Shafthouse, Tram Ride & Underground Mine Tour
interprets the story of the Quincy Mining Company. Located on US-41 north of Hancock. For information call (906) 482-3101.

Upper Peninsula Firefighters Memorial Museum houses exhibits related to a century of fire fighting history. 327 6th Street, Calumet. For information call (906) 337-4579.

Coppertown USA Museum

Laurium Manor Inn
, now a private inn, is the largest mansion in the western Upper Peninsula. 340 Tamarack Street, Laurium. For information call (906) 337-2549.
 
A. E. Seaman Mineralogical Museum is Michigan's official mineral museum and houses an extensive display of native copper. 5th floor, EERC Building, MTU, Houghton. For information call (906) 487-2572.
 
Copper Range Historical Museum preserves and interprets the history of communities south of the Portage. Corner of Champion & Trimountain Streets, South Range. For information call (906) 482-6125 or 482-9171.
 
Delaware Copper Mine, one of the oldest mines in the Keweenaw, offers underground and surface tours. Along US-41 between Calumet and Copper Harbor. For information call (906) 337-4688.
 
F. J. McLain State Park sits along the shore of the canal that was dug to complete the water passage through the Keweenaw Peninsula for the mining industry. Along M-203 between Calumet & Hancock. For information call (906) 482-0278.
 
Fort Wilkins State Park is a well-preserved example of a 19th century military post, built to provide order on the Keweenaw. Just beyond Copper Harbor on US-41. For information call (906) 289-4215.

Houghton County Historical Museum offers an extensive glimpse into the daily life of Houghton County. Along M-26 in Lake Linden. For information call (906) 296-4121.

Keweenaw County Historical Museum Complex preserves the history of one of the earliest ports on the Keweenaw. Off M-26 in Eagle Harbor. The complex also includes the historic Phoenix Church, the Bammert Blacksmith Shop and the Rathbone Schoolhouse. For information call (906) 289-4990.
 
Hanka Homestead preserves a small immigrant farmstead. 8 miles west of Baraga. For information call (906) 334-2601.
 
Old Victoria preserves an example of early mining company lodging. At Rockland on US-45, go 5 miles SW on the Victoria Road. For information call (906) 884-4735.
 
Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park contains early mine sites and virgin forest. 15 miles west of Ontonagon on M-107. For information call (906) 885-5275.
 
The
COPPER COUNTRY ARCHIVES, established in 1969, seeks to preserve and make available for research, manuscript and printed materials relating to the people and institutions of the Copper Country of Michigan. The archives, open Monday-Friday 8-5, are located at the Van Pelt Library on the campus of Michigan Technological University in Houghton. For information call (906) 487-2505.
 
The FINNISH AMERICAN HERITAGE CENTER houses the Finnish-American historical archives and a family history center. Open Monday-Friday 9-4, the center is located at 601 Quincy Street, Hancock, MI 49930. For information call (906) 487-7347.
 
PAINESDALE MINE AND SHAFT, INC. offers tours of the hoist and shaft house by arrangement until the restoration is complete. The shaft is located on the Chassell Painesdale Road, 1/4 mile off M-26. For information call (906) 482-8313.
 
The CHASSELL HERITAGE CENTER is a museum and cultural center run by the Chassell Historical Society and located at the old Chassell Elementary School. It is dedicated to the cultural & historical heritage of Chassell, and the restoration and maintenance of the historic Chassell school. The HANCOCK PEWABIC HOUSE AND MUSEUM, is dedicated to the research, preservation and display of the life and career of Mary Chase Perry Stratton (founder of Pewabic Pottery) and the City of Hancock. For information call (906) 482-9690.

SAND HILLS LIGHTHOUSE INN, now a private bed and breakfast, offers tours of this lighthouse built in 1917. For information call (906) 337-1744.
 
MUSIC & DANCE
