Friends of Jon Davis:

You may or may not know that Jon Davis former owner of THE LIBRARY BAR in Houghton passed away December 27th 2009.

A small group of Jon Davis’s friends and associates are working on raising funds for a tribute to Jon Davis in conjunction with this years Bridgefest celebration in Houghton.  As you know Jon was a tremendous individual and a suitable tribute is in order to honor him for all he has done for the Copper Country and beyond.
 
We feel that since Jon was the “main man” who started the 4th of July fireworks in Houghton and Hancock many years ago (along with too many other things to mention), it would be most appropriate to salute him with a special fireworks display this year and perhaps into the future.

 If you are not living in the area any more, you may not know that the fireworks are no longer on the 4th of July but are done during Bridgefest in June. This year’s event is scheduled for June 18th, 19th, & 20th.  We invite you to come and spend the weekend in town for a great time.  The local Rotary Club also puts on their Seafood Fest at the same time.  This year is the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Portage Lift Bridge and there are several special events planned for the anniversary. http://www.bridgefestfun.com/events.php

We are partnering with the Portage Lake Enrichment Foundation through the Keweenaw Peninsula Chamber of Commerce web site (www.keweenaw.org) for donations.  They are a non profit charitable organization so any donations are tax deductible. Donations can be made here by credit card.

We have established Red, White, and Blue ($50.00, $100.00, & $150.00 respectively) donation levels that will entitle anyone who donates access to a special viewing area for the fireworks and hopefully some refreshments to enjoy.  As Jon did in the old days, we will have buttons of the appropriate color for contributors to get into the special viewing area.

The estate of Jon Davis has jump-started the fundraising campaign with a $500.00 donation.  We hope to multiply this several times in order to provide for a spectacular display this year and to help do the same in future years. We also have some ideas in mind for a permanent tribute to Jon if enough funds can be raised.
