The first 2010 Animal Rescue Site $100,000 Shelter+ Challenge - together with Petfinder.com was a great success, thanks to all of you who participated. Your excitement showed; over 5.2 million votes were cast for more than 12,000 amazing animal rescue groups.

Mini Grants Available in the Western UP
 
The Copper Country Community Arts Council (CCCAC) is the region thirteen
administrator for the Regional Re-granting program of the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA). The CCCAC facilitates funding opportunities for arts projects in the six counties of the Western Upper Peninsula; Houghton, Keweenaw, Baraga, Ontonagon, Gogebic and Iron.
 
The deadline for funding in 2010 is February 24, 2010 for projects taking place April 1 through September 30, 2010. Applications are available on line at www.coppercountryarts.com or at the Community Arts Center, 126 Quincy Street, Hancock, MI 49930. United Brings New Chicago Service to Midwestern Cities

United Express launches flights to Eau Claire, Wis., Hancock/Houghton, Mich., Muskegon, Mich., and Paducah, Ky.

 

The last of the brick pavers are being set today Monday, October 26, 2009 (weather permitting) and the grouting of the last block of brick is expected to be completed tomorrow.  The remaining sidewalk, lighting and cleanup on Shelden Avenue will be done Wednesday, October 28, 2009. Preparations for returning traffic to the pre-construction patterns and routes will start Wednesday afternoon.  It is expected that Shelden will be fully opened some time Thursday morning (October 29, 2009) and Montezuma Avenue will be returned to a one way at that same time. The US-41 Southbound detour onto Sharon Avenue will remain in effect until later that day.

Drivers are asked use caution, be attentive and prepared for these changes in the traffic flows. Please follow signs and guidance from construction personnel and traffice regulators. MDOT would like to thank all the drivers, community members and business owners for the patience they have showed throughout the summer.
